Every time you want to start feeling like you are at home, ask yourself: are you even at home?
As you know, hostels are one of the most affordable travel lodging options. This is a great alternative for those people who prefer to spend less on housing and more on the emotions of travel and entertainment. Accommodation at the hostel is a great opportunity to meet friends like you from all over the world. But, alas, guests often forget that a room in a hostel is a room in a hotel. To ensure that everyone was equally comfortable, the administrators are working (even if this is their direct responsibilities, but still), and the guests themselves, these are the rules. And it is about mutual comfort and respect that we would like to talk about.
It is difficult enough to adjust to all guests, especially in matters of temporary cohabitation of people from different countries. Everyone has their own habits, their own daily routine and the hostel administrators will not be able to physically surround everyone with proper comfort without any help from the guests themselves.
In our hostel Friday we are constantly confronted with people who interfere with their neighbors, using incredibly smelling means, completely not thinking about the comfort of other people in the room. The case concerns deodorants, perfumes, various creams and even spray from insects. Try to use such things in the restroom or in the open air, not all people respond well to pungent odors.
Especially pleasing are guests who love plastic rustling bags. The same ones that wake up in the middle of the night everyone in the room when they sincerely think that they remain completely secretive and noiseless, pulling out their toothbrush and flip-flops.
One of my favorite cases is late guests, who raise themselves and everyone around with a melodic alarm clock at exactly 5 a.m. You can go straight to the whole hostel! Everyone has a very interesting habit: to have a bite while watching the series. A lot of people sin with this, but it is better to postpone this impulse until your arrival home. Because maybe you are used to the crumbs on your bed after such gatherings, but your hostel neighbor doesn’t.
We often notice that someone with pleasure can plop down on someone else's bed in street clothes, even if no one is there yet. Agree, it’s not pleasant to find incomprehensible spots, or someone’s long hair on your pillow. Please respect the privacy of others.
To ventilate the room — it is very important and even necessary. Therefore, please do not close the windows in the rooms. Think about how your neighbor might be uncomfortable in such conditions. If you feel cold, ask for a blanket. If loud — ask for ear plugs, no one will refuse you. But the fresh air in the room must be, it is primarily good for health.
Nights in hostels (absolutely everything except Friday, but this is a completely different story) are needed in order to relax. From 11 o’clock until 8 o’clock in the room the time comes for sleep and not everyone will be glad that you are awake at midnight and do not let the rest fall asleep. Try to chat in advance, or agree to continue the fun and conversations in the common area during the game, say, on the PlayStation.
Try to wash the dishes. Of course, there are dishwashers for this, but a cup with someone else’s lipstick or coffee residues is not a pleasant find in the shared kitchen.
Try to meet new guests with a smile, and you will definitely get it in return. This is the easiest way to establish a friendly atmosphere between people, so that it would be more comfortable for everyone to be indoors, even if only for a couple of hours. Try to be responsive and respond to requests from other travelers, help with advice or just turn off the lights.
If you feel uncomfortable, let your neighbor know about it directly. Do not endure and do not suffer. Of course, politeness does not always help, but do not immediately go to the conflict. If a problem occurs, solve everything with the help of an administrator. He will happily help resolve the conflict peacefully.
Of course, living in a hostel implies numerous restrictions, some inconveniences, but this also has its charms. But this is always a great opportunity for you to make friends with completely different people from different corners of our planet, learn something new and just have a great time.
And certainly it will not be superfluous to mention that in hostels like our Friday everything is provided, because we try to make economical living comfortable!
